Billy is a child. The serial killer Alfie Kirby meets him and his mother in 1975. Kirby gives Billy a Matchbox toy and tells him how they are made. When Billy kicked his football into the road, Kirby stops him because Billy wants to run after it. Instead, Kirby walks into the road, gets hit by a car, and is killed. This prevents Billy's mother from being murdered; she was going to be Kirby's sixth victim.
