Gavin was Martin's nephew. Martin wanted to give him Crumb's job. Martin was very biased in favour of Gavin and considered him very intelligent, but in actuality Gavin was highly dopey and unintelligent. After Crumb was recruited by Hal, Gavin became Crumb's first victim when Crumb drained and killed him in revenge for Martin handing Crumb's job over to Gavin.
